Powidl – Austrian Plum Jam

A traditional Austrian plum jam perfect for desserts or as a spread.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Zwetschgen (plums)
  • 500 g sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the plums by washing and pitting them. Halve the fruits for quicker cooking.
  2. Add the prepared plums to a large pot. Add sugar, cinnamon stick, and lemon juice. Mix everything well.
  3. Heat the pot over medium heat until the mixture begins to boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat.
  4. Simmer the mixture, stirring constantly, for at least 60-120 minutes until it thickens. Ensure nothing burns.
  5. Fill the hot jam into previously sterilized jars and seal them well.
  6. Cool the jars on a kitchen towel and then store them in the fridge.

Notes

Choose ripe plums for the best flavor. Adjust sugar according to the sweetness of the plums.
